About Jennifer Clark

My art is a celebration of the vibrant, messy and layered experience of life - a fusion of movement, identity, and emotion that speaks to my multi-passionate, multi-racial roots. As a painter and mixed media artist, I let intuition guide me, tapping into the energy and stories that flow beneath the surface.

With a doctorate in psychology and 20 years of teaching high school, I’ve spent my life exploring the depths of the human mind and heart. This understanding flows into my art, where each piece becomes a narrative of the human experience—full of complexity and emotion. My background as a modern dancer brings a sense of rhythm and movement to my work; I approach the canvas as if it were a dance floor, letting the paint flow and the forms evolve naturally, capturing the energy and spirit of life.

In my mixed media creations, I embrace the beauty of blending different materials, techniques, and ideas. This process mirrors the complexity of my own identity as a half Mexican/Native American and White woman, and as someone who does not easily fit inTO boxes, my fluid identity infuses my work with vibrant colors, earthy textures, and a deep connection to nature and culture. I love the process of combining different elements, finding beauty in the contrasts and juxtapositions that speak to my own story of identity and belonging.

Teaching yoga grounds me in the present moment, and this mindfulness is woven into my creative process. My art is an act of being fully present, of letting go and allowing the materials to guide me. It’s a balance between control and freedom, mind and body, thought and instinct.

Whether it’s on a canvas or in the classroom, my work is about connection—connecting to myself, to others, to spirit, and to the world around me. I create to make sense of the messiness of life, to celebrate the imperfect, and to invite others to do the same.
